RUSA Reaches Out HomeThis is a featured page

The question we want to answer is: how can RUSA effectively support librarians on the local level?

This wiki was created by a group of Emerging Leaders through the American Library Association's Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) Division. The group of three bright, young professionals was tasked with exploring the possibility for RUSA to provide information, education, and networking opportunities among library professionals.

We are:

  • Nicole Cavallaro, Assistant Manager Reference Central at Orange County Library System, Orlando, Florida
  • Emily Ford, Project Director, Oregon Health Go Local, Oregon Health & Science University, Portland, Oregon
  • Kim Leeder, Reference Librarian, Boise State University, Boise, Idaho
  • You? We invite you to join in by participating in this wiki.

RUSA Reaches Out Home - RUSA Reaches Out

    Our Task:

Design and conduct a feasibility study for RUSA to answer the question: Is there a possibility for collaboration with state/regional library organizations to help support the professional development and networking needs of library staff who may not be nationally active?

Part of our challenge as Emerging Leaders is to take RUSA's thought "we need to involve professionals who are active locally, not just nationally" and work that concern into definable areas. What exactly should RUSA be investigating? What does RUSA need to know about this constituency in order to provide better services to it? Much of our work was to identify possible answers to these questions. To these questions we offer the following answers:

    • How are librarians involved now?
    • Where are librarians involved now?
    • If they aren't involved, why not?
    • What kind of services or resources would local professionals use, were RUSA to offer them?

    What do you think?

Feel free to comment or contribute to any page of this wiki, particularly the Your Thoughts Here page, or use the Discussion Forum to join in the conversation about how RUSA can reach out to librarians on the local level.
